Instead of cupcakes this 4th of July, how about some cut-it-out cakes! What are cut-it-out cakes? Well, let me explain. This is just a regular cake mix in a box but the batter is baked in a 13X9 cookie sheet to create a thin layer of cake. With fun cookie cutters, I made little cutouts and layered the cake with a whipped cream cheese frosting. Whipped frosting works great for piping cakes.
Preheat the oven to 350F
Once all of the ingredients are mixed well, pour batter in to a greased 13X9 cookie sheet and bake for 13 minutes.
Let the cake cool for five minutes.
With the flower cutouts, I made a little layer cake. The stars were too small to use for layering. It’s possible, but it’s a bit wobbly. If you want to make a layer cutout, the cutout should have a large base to hold another cake on top.
Make a small snip at the corner of the piping bag, about a half-inch cut.
Decorate the cake with fruit or sprinkles! And don’t forget to let the kids help out! They’ll love it!
